New Audi A5 2016 review

Let's start with the design. When the first pictures of the new Audi A5 were released, my colleague Nicola jokingly posted a picture of the old Audi A5 at the top of the article and included a gallery of the car. This fanned the flames of the discussion wether the Audi A5 has been renewed enough. Let's put it like this.

This car looks like the previous Audi A5, but it really is a different car. You have to keep in mind Audi changed direction a couple of years ago; evolution, not revolution. Maybe they copied this from Porsche. A new model is more modern and sleek, but not a completely new design. I used to complain about this, but the idea grew on me.

Maybe we all should do this. I think the Audi A5 takes a leap in design compared to the previous one. The original design of the first Audi A5 by Walter de Silva... I think that is one of the prettiest car designs ever. You may have your own opinion. For example, it is a shame it has no RWD. However, it is a beautiful coupe.

This car has to be a continuation, because they cannot market a new Audi A5 that looks nothing like the previous model. However, this car's design is more flowy than the previous Audi A5.There are more waves in its lines, especially in its silhouette. It does this at the front wheels. The fold running the length of the car does more of this as well.

It is more organic or something, not as taut. I think this is remarkable, because the new models of most other Audis are stretched tight. This one has more sexy lines. You have to decide for yourself
if this is prettier or not. I think the very first Audi A5, before its first facelift, is the prettiest. But yeah, this is what Audi does.

Enough about the outside. Decide for yourself if it is pretty or not. Discuss it among yourselves. I don't care. I think it is a nice-looking car. What can we say about the interior? In the S4 video, Wouter said Audi is the interior boss at the moment. Everything is right. It is pretty, the materials are pretty, everything is where it should be, The iCockpit is wonderful as well, but we said that a hundred times.

Let's not waste too much time and continue with other news. That would be the engines. Each fuel variety has three flavors. The diesel engines has three varieties, ranging from 187 hp to 280 hp. The gasoline engines have three flavors as well: the 187 hp base model, just like the diesel engines, and there is a 249 hp variety.

The S5 has 349 hp. The engines have become more economical and deliver more power. Audi made a lot of progress there. Today, Audi gave us a 187 hp 2-liter diesel engine, the well-known TDI engine.
It has 187 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb ft) torque. It does 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 7.7 seconds and the top speed is 238 kph (148 mph). Whatever. It is great for traveling.

Because of the 400 Nm (295 lb ft) torque, shifting gears is nice. It is easy to drive relaxed. In our case it has the S tronic automatic transmission. It is a fine engine. This car is not for hooning. This car is for stylish travel. That is how I see it. The handling is typically Audi.

The suspension is not very communicative, but this car is not a very sporty edition. That is not necessary, but it handles and communicates well. The steering wheel tells you what happens, but it is still electric power steering. You do not feel every stone on the road. The suspension is nicely balanced, though. If you enter a corner too fast, you get understeer.

If you exit the corner too fast, you get understeer as well. That's the way it is. Front-wheel drive. You just have to behave. To end our introduction with the Audi A5, you want to know if you should buy one. To get back to what I said at the start; it is evolution, not revolution. The new A5 is better than the previous one.

It does well compared to its rivals, especially with its interior and finish. I think it is better than anything you can buy at BMW or Mercedes. I have one point of criticism: the iPad-like screen that does not retract. I think it is not that pretty, but that is my opinion.
